New City Neighbors

The Breaktime Bakery is a unique entrepreneurship program that was started in the summer of 2006. For seven weeks, 6th-8th grade students are taught basic job skills that increase their chances of succeeding in the work place. Students are taught the importance of showing up on time, having good hygiene, maintain the supplies needed to run a business, and people skills. Furthermore, they are taught how to work hard while having fun. At the end of the summer, most students have mastered money/goods exchange, multi- tasking, and quality control. We limit this
program to twelve students so that we can focus on each individual and
make sure that each young person succeeds.
